The cylinder guard protects the extended piston of the cylinder. During excavation work, the arm is often brought too close to the cab and thus hits the cylinder. To avoid expensive cylinder repairs, this cover is mounted in front of the cylinder. The caps run left and right on a rail inside the cylinder guard. If the cylinder protection makes "noise" when extending and retracting the connecting rod, then it is often due to these caps.
